About
Dan Shalev is a southern California-based photographer and visual storyteller. He grew up in London, England and moved to New York City in 1998. Dan originally took up photography to share his perspective of his adoptive home with others.
Dan's passion is for capturing environmental portraits and visual stories of events. He takes a portraitist's approach to rapidly capture individual moments that together tell the story of a happening. He also donates his time providing pro-bono event photography services to causes that he supports.
His work also includes urban landscapes. This started as a way to show the monumental scale of the architecture of New York City in contrast to its people. These images are created by capturing multiple images and combining them into composites to provide perspectives that could not be captured in a single image.
In October 2020, Dan moved with his wife and daughter to Irvine, California.
